Steven Hayes

Steven C. Hayes received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from West Virginia University in 1977 and is currently a Nevada Foundation Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada. He is the founder of the ACT model (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and author of 35 books and over 500 scientific articles. Steve has been President of Division 25 of the APA, of the American Association of Applied and Preventive Psychology, the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science, and of the Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies. He was the first Secretary-Treasurer of the Association for Psychological Science, which he helped form and has served a 5 year term on the National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse in the National Institutes of Health. Hayes has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the field, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies. In 1992 he was listed by the Institute for Scientific Information as the 30th “highest impact” psychologist in the world. His popular book Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life, rose to #20 on the list of all books in early 2006.
